Gartner ReimagineHR 2024 Recap

As one of the premier events for HR leaders worldwide, the Gartner ReimagineHR Conference brings thousands of CHROs and other senior HR leaders together each year to learn, network, and engage in forward-thinking conversations that will help them shape their strategies at work.

This year’s conference, held in Orlando, Florida, from October 28 – 30, focused on the impact of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). If you missed out this year, we’ve highlighted a few key events and insights below.

AI and the future of HR

Much of Gartner’s 2024 conference revolved around AI’s profound impact on the workplace. While the AI race often seems to pit employers against employees, Gartner challenged attendees to rethink this narrative.

CHROs are uniquely positioned to shape how AI transforms work for their organizations. Therefore, they should focus on solutions that benefit both employers and employees. These solutions not only improve productivity but also help foster a work environment where human potential can thrive.

In keeping with this year’s focus on the intersection between humans and technology, each keynote session focused on a different component of this relationship, with topics ranging from overcoming disruption and rethinking failure to improving mental well-being.

Here is a summary of all the major keynotes from this year.

Making Work Better – The Reset-Ready Organization

Delivered by Jessie Knight, VP of research at Gartner, and Russ McCall, director of advisory at Gartner, this opening keynote emphasized the opportunity for HR to reimagine what good work can look like. By rethinking organizational structures and processes, HR leaders can drive positive outcomes for both employees and businesses.

The Never Normal

Peter Hinssen, entrepreneur and author, explored how rapid technological advancements combined with complex global problems can reshape how we live and work. With so many possible disruptions on the horizon, companies must be prepared for how to exist in a “never normal” environment.

Unlocking Growth Through Intelligent Failures: The Strategic Advantage of Embracing Fallibility

Harvard Business School’s Amy Edmondson used research from her book, “Right Kind of Wrong: The Science of Failing Well,” to encourage attendees to see failure as a necessary part of innovation. By embracing calculated risks and learning from mistakes, organizations can turn failures into strategic advantages and drive long-term growth.

Mastering Well-Being in a Constantly Connected World

In his closing day keynote, digital anthropologist and bestselling author Rahaf Harfoush offered an important reminder about the dangers of digital overload. In an era of constant connectivity, organizations must think about their role in protecting employees' mental well-being. He offered practical solutions for reducing digital distractions and fostering a more mindful, balanced approach to work.

Exploring key HR challenges with specific tracks

In addition to keynotes, attendees could dive into various tracks designed to address the most pressing challenges facing HR today. These tracks allowed participants to focus on specific areas of interest and included:

  • Reimagine the Role of the CHRO
  • Reimagine Talent Management
  • Reimagine Recruiting
  • Reimagine Learning and Development
  • Reimagine Total Rewards
  • Reimagine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Reimagine HR Tech and Analytics

Each track offered a mix of sessions, including theater presentations, roundtables, and research discussions that gave attendees actionable takeaways and strategies to implement within their own organizations.
